VNSL - 3rd Place Match - ONE LAST PUSH

5th May 2016

Vitality Netball SuperLeague

3rd Place Playoff: Hertfordshire Mavericks V Team Bath

There is no denying this is not the match we wanted to be playing in.  In the semi, our girls gave it everything they had and more, but on that day, in that moment, it just wasn’t quite enough to take us past a tough Surrey Storm.

Despite the result, we are so proud of the squad, so proud of what they all have achieved this season against a back drop of highs and lows, celebrations and drama – all the things that make this sport so special.  And so now its time for one last push.  Sixty minutes of grit, determination and playing the Mavericks way.

On Saturday we face Team Bath at the CopperBox in our final match, to decide who takes 3rd place in the SuperLeague.  The squad have picked themselves up from the semi-final.  They are determined to go out with a bang, to do themselves proud and to reward all the Mavericks supporters that are travelling to the CopperBox and those that will follow along on social media;  those new to Mavericks this season and those that have supported us year in and year out.  You’ve been with us the whole season through and we are determined to end this with a win for you.

We know that Bath will be feeling the same way, wanting to go out on a high and take the bronze medals.  We are prepared and we are ready.  This will be an exciting match, a hotly contested one that we are determined to take.

Head coach, Sam Bird said: "Its really tough recovering from such a close semi, and the pain of losing by 2 goals has not gone away. The third fourth playoff presents another challenging match against Bath at a fantastic arena in front of our fans.  We have worked hard this week to ensure we put the best performance out for Hertfordshire Mavericks again that we can. I'm proud of our squad and we will enjoy the last match of the season by performing to our very best for our fans and our club"

All that’s left is to tell you that First CP is at 2.30pm on Saturday.  The game is not being televised so if you are unable to attend you will be able to follow along via our Twitter Feed - @hertsmavericks.  If you are attending, then the request is the same as always – come in Purple and make sure we can hear you!

PS - Don’t Forget to Vote for Sammy

The Vitality Netball SuperLeague Player of the Season will also be awareded at the CopperBox on Saturday and voting does not close until Friday at noon.  Please keep voting for Sammy Wallace.  Her first season in the SuperLeague has been a huge one.  She’s demonstrated that she’s a precision shooter, cool as a cucumber and full of personality.  She thoroughly deserves the title of Player of The Season but she needs your help.  You can click here to vote Sammy!
