Mavericks Community Partner Everyone Active Hosts Inspirational Community Event

8th September 2017

On 5th August Westway Community Leisure Centre ran an inspirational open community event following the tragic Grenfell Tower fire. The day hosted an array of free activities of many different varieties that were open for everyone and anyone to come down and experience. Mavericks community partner Everyone Active hosted the event and we were invited to hold a Netball stand and host fun netball activities. The day was a true reflection of how strong the community really are and it was delightful to see plenty of smiles and laughter from all on the day.

Nicole Duke Everyone Active Regional Netball Development Coach said  ‘The community event was one of the most inspirational and lively events I have been to. The atmosphere was amazing with different types of music and activities such as Bollywood dancing and circus acts. It felt truly great to be a part of the day and was brilliant being able to offer Netball tasters to the community. We had a huge variety of people wanting to get involved which made for a great stand and a really memorable experience. A huge thank you to Camilla and Lisa from Hertfordshire Mavericks who helped on the day, it was great to have two fantastic ambassadors for the sport involved. ’

Camilla Buchanan, Assistant Coach and player for Hertfordshire Mavericks was also at the event; ‘I couldn't think of a better way of getting involved with such a great cause. There was not one person that wasn't touched by the Grenfell Tower heartbreak and to hear that Everyone Active were putting on an event at Westway Leisure Centre to help lift the spirits of the whole community, I jumped at the chance to be involved. We had a mix of children there with some 'nifty over fifties' taking advantage of it too. Young, old, boys, girls, netballers or not, they all had a great time. It was a beautiful day for all to immerse themselves in some fun and positivity and for a small moment, lift the spirits of a community that has had a really tough couple of months. I couldn't be prouder of Mavericks' partnership with EA to help deliver a small dose of happiness! Well done EA!’

Lisa Brown, Hertfordshire Mavericks Future’s Academy Coach, also joined us on the day helping to support the delivery of the stand and her passion for netball really helped everyone get involved in the sport. A huge thank you to Westway Community Leisure Centre for inviting us and hosting a very successful event, it was amazing to be involved in such an uplifting experience.
