Match Preview: VNSL Semi-Final - It All Comes Down To This

28th April 2016

Vitality Netball SuperLeague

Semi-Final: Hertfordshire Mavericks V Surrey Storm

The regular season is done.  After 14 matches, 854 minutes of on court grit and determination, highs and lows, it has all come down to this match.  It’s what all eight teams are playing for at the start of the season – a place in the semi-finals, the chance to be in the grand final and ultimately hold the trophy aloft at The CopperBox on May 7th.

Both matches against Storm this season have been won and lost by a tiny margin with one victory to each team through the rounds. Saturday's match presents an opportunity for two of the top teams to fight it out for a place in the the final the following week.

There is no doubt the match-up with Surrey Storm is going to be a highly contested one. Surrey have strength and depth across the court and we know that we must work as a team to restrict their play.  It’s simple really; something netballers up and down the country are told week in week out.  Take every CP to goal, turnover ball and take those to goal too.  Every player working – giving their best as an individual and as a team member.  That’s it really – you can expect us to be what we are ‘Mavericks’ – there will be some surprises, we’ll be unorthodox where it makes sense and most of all we will be a team.

Sam Bird, Head Coach, said: “We are really looking forward to another encounter with our rivals Surrey Storm. Both teams deserve to be in the top four and it is all to play for on Saturday. We are excited, unified and proud to be representing Mavericks in the semi final. "

We are hugely grateful to all of our fans that managed to secure tickets – we will need your support in the Surrey Sports Park so don’t forget to make yourselves heard.  We may be few but we will be loud and passionate!  For all of you that were not able to get tickets, don’t forget that it will be live on Sky Sports – scream at your TV – we will hear you!

First CP is at 6pm and if you are unable to attend or watch on Sky Sports you will be able to follow along via our Twitter Feed - @hertsmavericks
