18th December 2018

Heading over to the University of Bath with a slightly different squad due to International training and injuries, this second pre-season fixture had just 8 VNSL players and 2 training partners for Mavericks. Playing 10-minute quarters instead of the normal 15 minutes, it was a short amount of time to connect and ensure teams took the most of their possession.

With Storm taking advantage of Mavericks unforced errors within the first few moments of the game and going into an early lead before Mavericks kicked into gear taking a 5-goal run of the opposition, you could see the combinations in both sides needing to settle.

Half time Mavericks were up 22 - 16 and going into the 3rd quarter, really found their grove in their attacking play with Marshall, S.Corbin, K.Corbin & Fisher linking well with beautiful craft and composure with both Fisher and Corbin shooting 100%. With a less experienced defensive unit, Storm also found their flow through the Mavericks defence and the quarter was evenly matched, with Mavericks still coming out on top.

Losing the final quarter by 4 goals, the final score was 48-46 to Mavericks and huge learnings from both squads to take forward for the season.

POTM George Fisher
