Mavericks U19s played in round 9 against Loughborough Lightning in what was anticipated to be a very competitive match. After the unfortunate defeat last week, we were all determined to get back to winning ways.

Starting line-up: GS LibbyBurgess, GA Jemma Nightingale, WA Bella Baylis, C Jasmine Nightingale, WD Vicky Booth, GD Katie Fisher, GK Jada Cooke

After a couple of early errors both sides settled into their rhythm and the first quarter finished 11-11. Neither side could predict how the game would eventually unfold.

Q2 saw Eleanor Butt come on as GA and saw Mavericks shift into sixth gear with defensive turnovers and slick attacking play preventing Lightning from scoring in the first ten minutes. With a one hundred percent record of centre passes to goal, we finished the quarter with 18 goals to Lightning's 3, giving us a half time lead of 29-14.

Q3 saw an unchanged Mavericks line-up against a few changes for Lightning but strong defence from Mavericks, lead by Jada Cooke at GK, lead to more turnovers and held ball calls, allowing Mavericks to increase their lead to 45-23 at the end of the quarter.

Mavericks brought on fresh legs in the shape of Abi Watson at C and Summer Knight at WA and continued to dominate. Grace Hinman came on as GS and Ella Patrick as WD which completed a full squad rotation for this round and resulted in a very pleasing 59-42 final score. Well played to the entire squad and we're looking forward now to the final weekend.
